The Kingdom and The King Storybook Bible is fun, fresh and full of faith! It’s brilliantly written and beautifully illustrated, bringing the Bible to life in a way like never before. It’s a "must-have" masterpiece - I love it, my kids love it and generations to come will love it. All I can say is, "WOW"!
What happens when a great storyteller gets his hand on "the greatest story ever told"? Bob Hartman’s The Kingdom And The King Storybook Bible is the answer! Bob has a knack of getting to the heart of the story. This selection of stories, skilfully expressed and creatively written, brings together the big story of Scripture in a delightful way.
Bob has managed to capture the beautiful Bible narrative in a fresh accessible way. The stories of old have a new lease of life which will inspire a new generation; plus us older ones reading it to them will get a different perspective on stories that we know so well. The illustrations complement the writing perfectly, symbiotically bringing the word of God alive once again.
Being long-time fans of the Tales that Tell the Truth series, we were looking forward to Catalina’s illustrations for this storybook Bible and they did not disappoint! They are detailed and captivating, robust and powerful, and appropriate for children while still being interesting to adults.
This storybook Bible traces the King and His kingdom throughout the stories in the Bible. Each story is captured on a 2 page spread, with an occasional 4 pages needed, and includes the title as well as the Scripture it’s based on. I appreciate the details of the contents pages at the beginning, the ribbon bookmark, and the “what’s next” at the end.
We meet the King on page 1 much like we do in Genesis 1. I love how the author so beautifully captured the emphasis of God’s sovereignty and His plan for redemption being highlighted throughout this book. Helping children to grasp the magnitude of God’s redemptive story is not an easy thing, but this storybook Bible does it beautifully.
I appreciate the simplicity of this storybook Bible with its stories and illustrations. There are no prayer prompts or discussion questions - just the beauty of the King and His Kingdom laid out on every page expressed in lovely words and dramatic illustrations.
I received a complimentary copy as a reviewer and all opinions shared are my own.

This is the second Bible storybook that I have reviewed from The Good Book Company. I wondered what would make this one distinct from the "God’s Big Promises Bible Storybook," and they are different in multiple ways. The art style in "The Kingdom and the King Storybook Bible" is much less cartoon-style and uses more muted tones, and the stories are longer and more involved. Author Bob Hartman covers additional content and uses more sophisticated vocabulary, and also includes some tough details that people often gloss over with children.
This book goes through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. The stories lead up to the reveal of King Jesus, and then show how Jesus fulfills God’s promises. The storybook selections include specific narratives from the Bible, and also include summaries that help explain other parts of Scripture. For example, the reading about Isaiah explains what that book is about, gives some context for the time period, and shows how Isaiah's prophecies point forward to Jesus. I appreciate how Hartman curated a blend of well-known stories, lesser-known moments from biblical history, and summaries of less narrative-focused Bible books.
"The Kingdom and the King Storybook Bible" will appeal to Christian families who are looking for a Bible storybook that is faithful to Scripture, takes kids seriously, and gives kids a strong sense of the gospel story. This makes a great family read-aloud, and many parents will find it eye-opening and encouraging for them, too. I really enjoyed this book as an adult reader, and it made me love Jesus even more. And that is the strongest endorsement I can give!
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I love this Bible! It’s written for younger children (I’d say ages 3 and up, though older kids could read it independently), yet the text is meaningful enough for the whole family to enjoy. With 70 stories spanning from Creation to Revelation, it makes a perfect bedtime read or family devotional.
Flipping through it, I was delighted to find that it includes several lesser known stories rather than focusing only on the most familiar ones.
The illustrations are enchanting and engaging! And you may recognize the artist from the beloved Easter book The Garden, the Curtain, and the Cross.
Thank you to @thegoodbookcompanyusa for sending me a complimentary copy to read and review!
Such a great way to distill stories from the Bible in a simple and beautiful way. The illustrations are spectacular and the stories capture the heart very well. Highly recommend. It.
Every night I read a chapter of a storybook Bible with my 6-year-old daughter. We haven't finished this one yet, but my daughter has already said this her favorite one! She loves the colorful and captivating illustrations. It is also easy for her to understand, but the language is not overly simplified like some storybooks.
This storybook takes you through Genesis to Revelation and shows how we meet God "on the very first page of the Bible and on every other page too."
This is a beautiful and faithful retelling that makes for the perfect family read aloud. I am sure we will be reaching for this one again and again.
*I was sent a copy of this stunning book by The Good Book Company in exchange for my honest thoughts.
The Kingdom and the King Storybook Bible took my breath away. It’s not just a children’s Bible—it feels like a work of art. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous, rich with color and detail, and they don’t just decorate the story, they tell the story. Every page draws little eyes (and mine too!) to linger, wonder, and worship.
The way the book unfolds the story of God’s Kingdom and His true King is both simple and profound. It makes the grand narrative of Scripture accessible for children, while keeping Christ at the center. I love how it ties every part of the Bible to Jesus, helping kids understand that it’s all one story of redemption.
This isn’t a book we’ll read once and put away—it’s one to return to over and over again, both for the truth it teaches and the beauty it carries. If you’re looking for a storybook Bible that is biblically faithful, gospel-centered, and visually stunning, this one is a gem.
This storybook Bible does a wonderful job of tracing the theme of kingship through both the Old and New Testaments. Each chapter is a good length—not too long for my 4-year-old, but still meaningful enough to point clearly to Jesus as the promised King. I also appreciate that every story includes Scripture references, which makes it easy for our family to dig deeper together. We’re excited to add this to our “dessert basket” for after-dinner devotions, since it works well for younger kids while also giving older ones plenty to think about. A rich and faithful resource that helps children see the joy of belonging to God’s everlasting kingdom.

In The Kingdom and the King Storybook Bible, Bob Hartman brings God’s Word to life for your kids through 70 engaging and faithfully told Bible stories.
This beautiful storybook Bible arrived at the perfect time for my family! While my younger children still need me to read to them, my oldest is beginning to read much more independently. This book allows our family to experience and engage with God’s Word in different and meaningful ways.
He Rules the World
The illustrations by Catalina Echeverri are vibrant and captivating, truly helping to bring the stories to life. What I love most about this book is how it spans the entire scope of Scripture—from Genesis to Revelation—showing how the Kingdom is woven throughout the whole Bible.
The Kingdom and the King Storybook Bible will help your children see that we have a great and powerful King who rules the world with truth and grace, and it is good to be his people!
I received a media copy of The Kingdom and the King Storybook Bible and this is my honest review. @diveindigdeep
I havn't found many storybook Bibles that I will actually read with my kids, but this one I will. My children have already been very interested in it from the illustrations. Each chapter is a short retelling of the story with references to the actual Scripture references. The Old Testament stories not only tell the stories, but also explains a little in how it fits into the whole of the Gospel. While it doesn't do this extensively, it shows how stories like the story of Issac point to Christ.
Some storybook Bibles come across as irreverent to me, but this one is definitely not that way. It doesn't dumb down the language either and make it to simplistic.
I liked the way the Old Testament was done for this book, but the New Testament wasn't my favorite. I felt like it was a little more focused on God’s kingdom and how he is bringing a new kingdom (which is all true), but I felt like it was overly emphasized. The reason for Jesus' miracles were presented as pointing to the coming kingdom when all things will be made right. While this is true, His miracles really pointed to the fact that He was God. I wish this was made more clear in this storybook Bible.
"But why did Jesus do the two together- healing people and telling them about the coming of God's kingdom? It's because, as well as caring for people and helping them, Jesus wanted everyone to know that when he is King, things that are wrong are put right."
It explains that the miracles also fulfilled prophecy which I appreciated, but I wish it explained that it showed that Jesus was God incarnate.
So I loved the Old Testament part of this storybook Bible, but wasn't as crazy about the New Testament.
We have been going through this Bible Storybook as a family during our homeschool time. It is the perfect length for my kids and we get to dive into the Word of God together
