“Begg does it again!”

Our family LOVED reading C is for Christian as our nightly family devotional, so we were so excited for J is for Jesus! This book has the same stunning illustrations and includes a daily reading, questions, and a prayer.
It goes through the entire alphabet, and each word points back to the life and character of Jesus. It is wonderful and would make an amazing baby shower gift, even though it is marketed for ages 5+, with its elegant design. Definitely a keepsake your family can cherish and love for many years. It is hardcover and has a ribbon marker so you never lose your place.
My little one anticipates each night’s reading, and resources like this make me grateful I don’t have to search hard to find solid materials to train my daughter in the things of Christ.

I will note that this book does include cartoon-style images of Christ.

I received a complimentary copy as a reviewer, and all opinions shared are my own.

“Wonderful gospel-centered discipleship resource”

This sweet devotional takes families from A to Z about the character and work of Jesus Christ. I read through this book with my daughters during our homeschool morning basket time. This book is fairly basic, but covers a lot of ground and instills the truths of the gospel in young hearts. Each days reading includes a verse, a 1 page devotional, discussion questions and a prayer. The illustrations are colorful and engaging and each illustration includes the letter of the day (A is for Advocate, B is for Bread, C is for Captain, etc). The girls loved it and especially enjoyed the illustrations and answering the discussion questions each day.

Both this book and C is for Christian are excellent resources for young children! I’m thankful for books like these that help me disciple my children.

“When you do something for King Jesus - when you obey His commands to love God and love others in the way He wants you to - you are working for the King of the universe. Whatever you do for Jesus is a great task, because you are doing it for Him - for the King.”

“Names of Christ”

In J is for Jesus, Alistair Begg invites young readers to explore and delight in who Jesus is, from A to Z.

This wonderful children’s book presents 26 names and titles for Jesus, each carefully chosen to reveal His character and work. From Advocate to Light, from Overcomer to Vine, the book is rich with theology presented in a format perfect for children.

Names of Christ

Each letter is beautifully illustrated by Emma Skerratt, while the opposite page offers a short devotional filled with biblical truth to explain the name and help your kids reflect on its meaning. The combination of art and explanation makes each page both engaging and memorable.

A treasure for children and a tool for parents, J is for Jesus helps families remember and celebrate the greatness of our amazing King. It’s a book that not only teaches names but points hearts toward the joy of who Jesus truly is.

I received a media copy of J is for Jesus and this is my honest review. @diveindigdeep

“Highly recommend.”

Our church has built a program for our newly baptized children through age five in which we encourage parents to hand on their faith. The materials we have purchased from Goodbooks are instrumental in that program. They are Bible based, enticing, exciting teaching tools for which I am grateful and sincerely recommend. J is for Jesus is another excellent example of their high standards.

“Biblically sound alphabet book!”

Using the alphabet, Begg has thoughtfully chosen 26 words to describe Jesus. Kids often hear that Jesus died for them because he loved them, but do they know terms like- Redeemer? Overcomer? Advocate? This biblically sound treasury is for all ages and will help kids understand the character of Jesus on a deeper level, bringing your child’s heart closer to Jesus.

This book would make a perfect daily reading! There is a Bible verse associated with every letter as well as a short reading (less than a page), some questions to think about, and a prayer.

Each letters word is creatively and beautifully incorporated into the illustration. I especially enjoyed the J being shaped as a little boy jumping for Joy, the F looking like a Faithful dog, and the M as trees as Jesus weeps underneath for Man of Sorrows. Skerratt’s colorful and eye-catching illustrations really make this treasury something special and unique.

While kids of all ages will be captivated by the illustrations, they will also enjoy the simplicity of the readings. I love all the questions throughout that keep kids engaged and get them talking about Jesus in ways they may not have considered before.

I highly recommend adding this stunning treasury to your home libraries. Ultimately, it causes you and your children to sit and ponder about Jesus, and why the only thing that truly matters in this life is following Him. What more can you ask for?

“A biblically-rich resource”

A right understanding of the character of Jesus is foundational to our faith and so we love this resource that helps support parents in helping their kids build that important theological foundation. The A-Z format with brief readings lends itself perfectly to our morning family devotions or to evening read-alouds. The illustrations are exquisitely detailed & captivating, drawing kids to consider the specific character aspect of Jesus as they explore each of the 26 full-color drawings. The readings are biblically-rich and theologically sound, providing a source Scripture reference, discussion-prompting questions, and prayer suggestions.
This is a solid resource for helping families as a whole grow in their knowledge, understanding, and love for Jesus!

Thank you to the publisher for a complimentary book in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.

“A Joy-Filled Celebration of the Gospel Alphabet”

J Is for Jesus by Alistair Begg is a beautifully crafted devotional alphabet book that invites children into the heart of the Christian faith in a way that is simple, joyful, and deeply rooted in Scripture. Each letter of the alphabet is paired with a gospel-centered truth, using accessible language that helps young readers connect big theological concepts with everyday life. This structure makes foundational truths memorable and engaging, encouraging children to see Jesus as central to everything they learn and experience.

What stands out most about this book is its clarity and focus. Rather than offering superficial lessons, Begg delivers rich biblical insights in a way that honors a child’s ability to understand God’s greatness while still being age-appropriate. The entries move beyond mere definitions, gently unfolding what each attribute or story reveals about Jesus’ character and His work on our behalf. Themes like grace, mercy, faith, and redemption are presented in ways that invite understanding, reflection, and delight—not just for children but for families reading together.

The writing strikes a lovely balance between reverence and accessibility, making complex truths feel approachable without losing their depth. With thoughtful explanations and a gospel emphasis on every page, J Is for Jesus serves as both a devotional guide and a tool for building a Christ-centered worldview from the earliest years. It’s a resource that can anchor daily reading, inspire meaningful conversations, and nurture a lifetime love for Jesus.

“Rich gospel truths accompanied by lovely illustrations!”

Beautifully whimsical illustrations and full of rich, Gospel truths. The words of wisdom from Alistair Begg are exactly like listening to his sermons - full of grace and wisdom and the power of the gospel. Each two-page spread has 1 full page color illustration on one side and the corresponding text on the other. It goes through every letter of the alphabet detailing characteristics of Jesus. There is scripture below every illustration, 2 questions to prompt discussion as well as a prayer to end the reading. This is a fantastic book to go through with children. You could do 1 letter each day and incorporate it into family dinners, bedtime routines, or anytime you have a few moments together. There are also free printable files on The Good Book Company’s website that include an alphabet poster, worksheets for every letter, and a fill in the blank chart. The homeschool mom in me loves worksheets that go along with books! Such an easy lesson to add to our homeschool day. There’s also a ribbon book mark which is such a lovely detail for this beautiful book. Great book for all Christians, young and old!

I received a complimentary copy as a reviewer and all opinions shared are my own.

“Highly recommend this one”

My middle two kids (ages 6 & 4) and I have been reading through this book together and have been so blessed.

This family devotional uses the 26 letters of the English alphabet to describe Jesus in 26 ways. Although the author is quick to point out that 26 letters are nowhere near enough to describe Him, it’s a great beginning. And an easy way to memorize 26 truths about Jesus. Each letter/page is followed by a brief prayer, which my daughter claims as her part of the read aloud.

The illustrations really are so memorable too, as they have the featured letter as part of the illustration.

Highly recommend this one.
