You may have heard a lot about the Holy Spirit... or very little. Christians and churches seem divided over this issue. Some are always talking about gifts of the Spirit, baptism of the Spirit, Spirit-filled people and so on. In other circles, the Spirit seems to be rarely mentioned.
There are plenty of books around that will claim to offer insight into the work of the Spirit... but what does the Bible actually say on the subject?
This Good Book Guide has been put together from a survey of every single verse in the Bible that mentions the Holy Spirit and His activity. It will help you discover what God's ...Word means when it talks about being 'filled with' or 'led by' the Spirit. Or the differences between the Spirit's work in the Old and New Testaments. You may be in for some surprises!
But most of all, this Good Book Guide will show how your life can and should be changed and shaped by the Spirit of God, who gives us life, and brings glory to Jesus Christ.
Please note: These studies take slightly longer than a typical Good Book Guide study.
Our group had just studied the book of Acts, so we thought a study on the Holy Spirit would be a great follow up. I've been a Christian most of my life, and my knowledge of the Holy Spirit and the teaching of Scripture was pretty shallow. This study was VERY helpful and thorough, and most of the ladies in our group appreciated the study. (We are a PCA church.) Yes, the teaching in the book does subtly cross hairs with the charismatics, which is more than fair, for they have errors. I appreciated the author carefully going over so ...many passages about the Spirit. The answers in the back of the book we a blessing to us, clear, well written and beneficial to our discussions. The work of the Spirit to save us (new birth!) magnify Christ and build up the church in love was clearly taught. I would definitely use this study again. Thank you!
Not quite what we expected. Rather than offering a clear and comprehensive introduction to the Holy Spirit, the authors seem primarily focused on critiquing elements of the Charismatic movement. While that may be valuable for readers already familiar with those debates, it makes the book less accessible for new Christians. Those without prior knowledge of charismatic teachings may find the discussion confusing or difficult to follow, rather than helpful as a foundational guide.
Being a comprehensive study of the Holy Spirit, the bible study includes good questions for discussion upon all topics that are covered, along with a lot of information
to help expand your studies. Including sections to Investigate, Explore more and Apply, the study is beneficial to help gain a deeper understanding and apply the teachings to your life.
