A note about this book

In May, Immanuel Church Nashville, where Sam Allberry had been serving as a pastor, announced that the elders had found Sam to be disqualified from gospel ministry due to his conduct in an inappropriate relationship. You can read their statement here. At TGBC, we seek to follow the lead of the church in discerning who is qualified to have a teaching ministry through the writing of books. We therefore paused sales of the books Sam has published with TGBC.

Since then we have spoken directly both with the leadership of Immanuel and with Sam himself. As a result, we are continuing to pause sales but not to cease publication altogether. We will continue to review the situation and speak with those involved, as well as to pray for them.

If you have any questions about Sam's books, please email admin@thegoodbook.com.au. And if you would like to be pointed to a resource similar to the one on this product page, please email hello@thegoodbook.com.au and we’d be glad to try to help.

About this book

Christians are increasingly seen as outdated, restrictive and judgmental when it comes to sex before marriage, cohabitation and homosexuality. In fact for many people, this issue is one of the biggest barriers for them considering Christianity.

Sam Allberry, author of many books including Is God Anti-gay sets out God’s good design for the expression of human sexuality. Readers will be shown that God himself is love and his blueprint for sex is designed to help us to flourish and live out our full humanity.

It is a great reminder of the Bible’s teaching on love, sex and marriage and ideal for giving away to people who may see it as ...

Endorsements

Given all the controversies and challenges surrounding sex I am delighted to welcome this bold, wise and sensitive treatment of the issues at stake. This is a book capable of changing opinions, altering viewpoints and, ultimately, rescuing lives. Thank you Sam Allberry!

Canon J. John Speaker + Author

Clear, wise, biblical, pastoral and in places very funny, Why Does God Care Who I Sleep With? gives an excellent answer to one of our generation’s most pressing questions. If it’s something you’ve asked, wondered or even just heard, Sam Allberry’s brief and thoughtful book will be a great help.

Andrew Wilson Teaching Pastor, King's Church London; Author, God of All Things

Clear, careful, compassionate and compelling - Sam's analysis of the sexual culture and why it matters to God is a message for every human being. Buy two. At least. You'll need them because I guarantee you won't want to pass on your own copy.

Adrian Reynolds Head of National Ministries, FIEC UK

Sam Allberry writes with clarity and empathy about one of the biggest questions of our day. His honesty and sense of humour cut through the stereotypes and platitudes we might be used to hearing about sexual relationships. Here is a counter cultural voice challenging us to consider afresh the Christian Faith and ultimately a relationship with God amidst the changing landscape of culture we find ourselves in.

Dr Amy Orr-Ewing Director of OCCA; author of Millennials

In this rich and provocative book, Sam Allberry explores how the yearnings of our hearts, the instincts of our bodies, and the complex cravings of our minds point us to something we want even more than sex. You can read it in an evening. But its effects could last a lifetime.

Rebecca McLaughlin Author, Confronting Christianity

This book is characteristic Sam Allberry: practical and vivid, humorous and clear, faithful and compelling. And remarkably timely. For the Bible’s sexual ethic, rightly understood and embodied, is not just true; it’s also beautiful. And contrary to popular belief, it’s good news for the whole world. Sam shows us why.

Matt Smethurst Gospel Coalition reviewer and Master of Divinity student at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

In a day in which very few are trying to answer the question this book asks with biblical clarity, I am grateful for Sam's courage and insight. This book will serve a generation that's either confused or ignorant of why sex matters and what God's good design is all about. This book will help us understand the beauty, protection, and plan that God has put in place.

Matt Chandler Lead Pastor of Teaching at The Village Church in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, and Executive Chaiman of the Acts29 Board.

Customer Reviews

5.00 stars Excellent truth

Even our pastor is not thinking Biblically about homosexuality and same sex marriage. This book is very clear in what God has to say about it.

4.00 stars Useful

straightforward, readable, practical.

4.00 stars A most helpful read.

For anyone interested in the sexuality debate presently raging out there, Sam Allbery addresses the issue from a Christian/Biblical perspective. It sets forth marriage as a heterosexual and monogamous model. Laced with scripture Allberry writes passionately and with pastoral warmth and compassionate sympathy for those with differing gender tendencies. Most helpful, I heartily recommend this easy to read work.
