I love this small group study guide series from The Good Book Company. Christians are regularly told they should spend more time studying God’s Word, but sometimes there’s not a clear plan for how to do this. These study guides provide practical, step-by-step guidance on working through books of the Bible, along with wonderful questions that encourage reflection and application. I hope churches and Christian ministries will take advantage of this wonderful resource.
The aim of the The Good Book Company is to be biblical, relevant and accessible, and nothing embodies that ethos more than their Good Book Guides. Each guide provides a framework for your group to dig into the text of Scripture for itself while providing enough of a steer to keep you on track plus useful pointers towards application. The result is a great combination of fidelity to Scripture and ease of use.
The Good Book Guides are an immensely precious resource for the church. A careful blend of helpful context and clearly-worded, searching questions which aim to help readers to uncover the meaning of the text and apply it in responsible ways. I think these small group studies are the best available and pray that they will continue to prove helpful to local churches across the world!
The Good Book Company has been publishing some amazing series and this is one of them. Their Good Book Guides are bible studies for individual or group use. They can be used as a companion to their God's Word For You series, which is also an amazing series.
Allberry structures the book with seven sessions that can completed on a weekly or monthly basis. Each session includes a specific format:
- The Story So far
- Talkabout
- Investigate
- Getting Personal
- Explore More
- Apply
- Investigate
- Getting Personal
- Apply
- Pray
The Getting Personal and Export More sections are noted as optional. I do not like this. I think it will be easy for readers to skip these sections assuming they don't provide much else to the study. That would be an horrible assumption. These sections bring so much depth to the study. Yes, it will require more time, effort, brain capacity, and energy. But the results are well worth the work!
There is a leader's guide included in the back of the study. For each session, the leader's guide provides the following:
- The Big Idea
- Summary
- Questions to utilize in the Explore More section
This study was a great resource to dive deeper into the Scriptures without feeling intimidated or overwhelmed.
I received a copy of this book from The Good Book Company in exchange for an honest review.
I love the God's Word For You Series as they're an excellent level of theology for any Christian, as they combine easy-to-understand concepts with some deeper biblical and theological thought. This accompanying set of Bible studies, also written by Sam Allberry, is the perfect companion for a small group discussion. There are plenty of questions (we usually choose a few to tackle each week rather than using them all), and they work well for both new Christians and those who have explored John's letters before. We also really like the new design for this series!
