Great for students learning English.

Used with Hungarian students learning English. Excellent way to share the Good News simply. I'd say it's also a good way to share with any new believers, too. Far too many people lack the basics, which this book gives.
Last copies forwarded for Hungarians to use themselves where appropriate.

I trust the rating 5 is excellent and not the reverse!

Thorough, clear, Biblical, user friendly and a great resource

A very good attempt at giving course leaders a tutorial to create confidence using this edition of CE.

However, a shame that the page numbers do not match in both this leaders' book and the course members' study guide?

Also a pity this has to be called the 'English made easy' edition, because this may put off potential English users who could feel they are being talked down to?

The less articulate really need materials that they can access without feeling embarrassed. CE is brilliant but for us, both in North London, and now in Worthing, many have found the original course too 'clever'.

We must not forget that less and less people read today. Pastors need materials that are sound theologically but easy to use with non academics.

Good as far as it goes

We have been using this guide with international students (PhD level), some of whom know absolutely nothing about the Christian faith. Unfortunately, this guide assumes too much knowledge of Christianity, and is very Western in approach. The words need more careful explanation. Why was a drunkard being lowered through a roof was one question asked after the student checked the meaning of 'paralytic' in her dictionary!

We have resorted to writing a far more basic study ourselves and using Christianity Explored as homework/background reading.

There is also the temptation to think/expect that if we follow the study, turn the crank, out will pop a Christian. Grace is far more wonderful (and mysterious) than that.

My student has been enjoying the course.

I have generally found Christianity Explored English made Easy to be a useful resource.
Negative comments are:
NIV Bible was too difficult for my student to understand. She was happy with the Good News version, and I gather that other churches have tried different versions.
She understood quickly the concept of sin and our inability to save ourselves, needing Jesus' death and sacrifice to enable us to be forgiven, and I felt that for her therefore in subsequent weeks we were a little like a record stuck in its groove.
Positively, the outlines with pictures of what we had learned each week were helpful, the Bible passages were about the right length and the steady unfolding of the gospel message was clear.

Excellent resource

Have used this booklet to aid us as we led a group of 7-11's (Spotlight- we meet once a week during term time and chose to do CE as this terms topic) in a Christianity Explored course. The course has been very well received, they have been very interested, asked loads of good questions and attended very well. It has been a great help to the leaders, as it has enabled us to make the course accessible to the groups age requirements. Good examples to use, good pictures as guides for visual aids, good illustrations. ie. the video for Jesus Death Session. All in all I would have to say 10/10. Thank you.
